He Made Their Tiny Wings

I love church good ol' Episcopalian church hymns. Not Baptist, not Methodist, but Episcopalian. The kind where they only sound good with a big old pipe organ playing. One of favorites is "All things bright and beautiful".

Beautiful melody, and crisp lyrics.

"All things bright and beautiful, all creatures great and small, all things wise and wonderful: the Lord God made them all. Each little flower that opens, each little bird that sings, God made their glowing colors, and made their tiny wings."

The photo of the angel in this collage, just resonated those words to me. Hence the inspiration.

It's a 5x7 canvase, encaustic wax collage. Did several variations as you can see.

Have a great day,
Robyn

Joyeux Noel - Santa Shrine

This shrine was a joy to create. It features Artistic Outpost Snowy Woods stamps, but the shrine is a kit available from Rock Candy Studios, my friend Roxi and Candice's company. It's easy to put together, and embellish away. I used Dresden trim and architecture elements, and added some golden glitz with metallic rub-ons. The little bottle is filled with glitter and jingle bells. I love creating Christmas art...just gets me in the spirit!

Fortune Teller Gypsy Collage

This stamp set is one of my favorites, Fortune Teller. It was a labor of love to design.

I enjoyed creating this card predominantly because of the way the colors just pop. I used Distress Inks to create the collaged background paper, and Copics to color the main image. I love the way the Distress Inks just pop on the Neenah cardstock. The inks just float on the surface. I have always used Distress Inks as a more direct to paper ink than a stamping ink, because of the "wetness" factor. However, with this "like buttah" cardstock, the inks just work.

Thanks for taking a look,
Robyn

A New Month...a New Post

Wow - It's been a while since I posted to my blog...

Too much living in October to blog!

Here is a project that is a "recycle" of one that Shelly Hickox designs for Halloween last year. I used her same concepts and created this fall-esque wall hanging using wood and Artistic Outpost stamps. I like how the brown and oranges pop.

Also, stamped with staz-on Classic Crest paper that we now carry at Artistic Outpost...makes such a clear crisp image.

Thanks for looking...

Carnival Portrait - Fortune Teller

I've been having fun playing with transfer techniques and acrylic paint. This is one of my favorite vintage photo images, and the star of one of Artistic Outpost's stamp plates, Fortune Teller. I took the vintage photo and transferred a toner based copy to a canvas with gesso....then went to town with various acrylic paints, my charcoal pencil and pitt pen. I like the way it turned out...I have several others as works in progress...I call them carnival portraits, because, I'm using vintage "carnival images" so far, and adding bright carnival colors...it's fun...and an experimentation and stretch for me. Fun times.

Wednesday Stamper - Dress Challenge

This week's Wednedsay Stamper challenge is "dress". Make anything involving "dresses"...

I had started this 8x10 canvas on Saturday, when I played with a few of my friends. We experimented with using gesso and magazine pages to transfer a cool background. My page was from a gardening magazine. The picture was of a trellis in a garden covered with roses. you can see in the background the layers and maybe make out the flowers. This technique is a fantastic way to "jump start" the textures and coloring and layering of whatever you are working on.

I then used oil pastels (thanks shelly) to add more texture...and layered some ephemera (again, thanks shelly).

I used stamps from Artistic Outpost's Fortune Teller collection to add more depth and then stamped the word magic. It's hard in the scan to make out the hands in peach bellini.

OH - I forgot the dress part...she's a lovely lady from my vintage photo collection...she looks so gypsy to me, and I heart her.
